The R&A was formed in 2004, taking its name from The Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Based in St Andrews, The R&A organises The Open Championship, which is also sometimes known as the British Open. The R&A administers the Rules of Golf worldwide (except in the USA and Mexico) and spends around & 6 million annually supporting golf development initiative on behalf of 141 affiliated organisations in 126 countries.
